STUDENT COMPETITIONS

Student teams compete in a variety of industry-sponsored competitions every winter quarter. These competitions are not only prestigious demonstrations of the quality of our students, but they are also excellent networking opportunities for the participating students. Click here for descriptions of the student competitions and a list the regional and national awards won by UW teams.

ADVISING FOR CURRENT CM STUDENTS

Each student is assigned a faculty adviser upon being admitted to the Undergraduate Construction Management Program.

First Advising Meeting:
Upon entry into the program, each student must make an appointment with their assigned adviser, who will review the student’s transcripts, verify that all pre-requisites are satisfied, fill out a change of major form, and advise the student on the development of an individual program of study.

Continuous Monitoring:
Faculty advisers will monitor the progress of all assigned students and advise them on the selection and or change of elective courses.  The assigned adviser will get grade reports for each student every quarter and will contact those students with a GPA below 3.0 for a closer follow up.

GRADE REQUIREMENTS AND ACADEMIC PROBATION

Grade Requirements
Students must take all graduate courses for numerical grades.  The Bachelor of Science in Construction Management degree program requires, in addition to UW graduation requirements, completion of the four year curriculum with:

1.  A minimum of 180 approved credits, and

2.  A minimum 2.50 cumulative GPA in upper-division college courses.

The last 45 credits must be earned as a matriculated student in residence at the University of Washington.

Academic Probation
Academic probation is essentially a warning to the student that he/she must show improvement if he/she is to remain in the Department.

Any undergraduate student shall be placed on department academic probation when his/her quarter GPA or college grade point average falls below 2.50.  An undergraduate student on academic probation will be removed from probation at the end of any quarter in which his/her college grade point average reaches 2.50 or better.  If the student does not raise his or her grade point within one quarter, they will be dropped from the program.

Any undergraduate student whose grade point average for his/her first quarter at the University falls below 2.00 shall be warned that his/her scholarship is unsatisfactory, and that if he/she fails to achieve a cumulative grade point average of 2.00 by the second quarter shall be placed on academic probation.  The registrar under delegated authority from the dean of the college in which the student is enrolled shall notify the student as soon as possible that either (a) his/her scholarship is unsatisfactory, or (b) he/she has been placed on scholastic probation.  The student is reminded further that he/she should consult with his academic advisor immediately to discuss future academic plans.

APPLICATION FOR DEGREE

Students must complete an application for graduation with their departmental adviser.  The deadline for submitting the application is the third Friday of the quarter in which the student intends to graduate. Submission of an application for a degree is the sole responsibility of the student.  The procedure is for the student to contact his or her departmental advisor and complete an application for graduation.  Once the application has been signed by both the student and his or her adviser, the student takes the signed application to the Graduation and Academic Records Office in Schmitz Hall.  When the application is received, the student’s record is reviewed.  All requirements for the degree must be met by the end of the current quarter, if the application is to be approved.  If this is not possible, the applicant is notified of the deficiencies by the Graduation and Academic Records Office.  Registration must be maintained for the entire quarter in which application for the degree is made.  If the student should withdraw during the quarter, the application becomes void, and a new one must be submitted at the appropriate time.   If the student does not complete all degree requirements during the quarter, a new application for degree must be submitted for the quarter in which degree requirements will be completed.
