CM Prerequisite Courses

The following courses (88 credits) are required for admission to the CM program, and must be completed by the beginning of the autumn quarter in which the student will begin CM studies. In other words, applicants can complete their prerequisite courses in the spring and summer quarters. However, please note the following:

  • All prerequisite courses should be taken for a grade (unless there is no graded option)
  • If possible, the physics series, math and financial accounting courses should be completed prior to submission of the application
  • Transfer students with credits from Washington Community and State Colleges should review the course equivalency guide prepared by the University of Washington.

Math and the Natural World (34 credits): 

General Physics I (PHYS 114 & 117, or PHYS 121)
General Physics II (PHYS 115 & 118, or PHYS 122)
Application of Calculus to Business & Economics (MATH 112 or 124, or 145 or Q SCI 291)
Introduction to Geological Sciences (ESS 101)
Introduction to Statistical Methods (QMETH 201 or STAT 311)
Other NW (Chemistry 120 or ENV S recommended) - 10 credits required 

Language Skills (10 credits):

English Composition + additional composition or W courses (Engl 131 + 281 recommended)

W courses counted toward this requirement cannot count toward another general education requirement. 

Visual, Literary, and Performing Arts (10 credits): 

Introduction to Public Speaking (COM 220)
Other VLPA - 5 credits required 

Individuals and Societies (15 credits): 

Principles of Economics (ECON 100, 200, or 201)
Other I&S - 10 credits required 

Business and Management (15 credits):

Introduction to Law (MGMT 200)
Introduction to Accounting (ACCTG 215)
Fundamentals of Managerial Accounting (ACCTG 225)

Construction Sciences (4 credits): 

Intro to Visualization and Computer Aided-Design (ME 123)
