Programs and Activities

UW Botanic Gardens Youth and Family Programs »

The UW Botanic Gardens conducts a variety of youth and family programs and community outreach activities, primarily through the Washington Park Arboretum. These include specialized on-site tours, school group programs, explorer packs, and special events.

Sound Citizen »

The SoundCitizen program investigates the connection between land and sea, specifically between the urban landscapes of Western Washington State and the marine waters of Puget Sound.  Currently, we are investigating the types of cooking spices found in our local waters and using these compounds to determine the connected nature between our kitchens and Puget Sound.  We need your help.  We can provide scientific 'kits' to interested parties and then study the effects of human activity on our local waters.

Interpretive Program at Pack Forest »

Located at the foot of Mt. Rainier, the Center for Sustainable Forestry at Pack Forest sits on 4,300 acres of third-party certified, working forestland. The interpretive program provides a number of opportunities for you or your group to learn about forest ecology, forest management, new ideas in forestry, and what we're doing at Pack Forest today. These opportunities range from self guided trails, and displays in our gatehouse, to naturalist lead trail walks and a curriculum on forest ecology for elementary to middle school students.

The Burke Museum of Natural History and Culture »

The Burke Museum welcomes group visits by children and adults of all ages. (Reservations required.) There are several options for group visits: hands-on discovery tours, guided tours, and self-guided tours. In addition, teachers can supplement their teaching with museum collections and hands-on resources and participate in specialized workshops for educators.

Washington State Ocean Sciences Bowl (aka Orca Bowl) »

Patterned on the National Science Bowl, the National Ocean Sciences Bowl provides a forum for students who excel in math and science to receive national recognition for their diligence and talent while broadening their awareness and understanding of the oceans.
