Name: Narooma Ann McDiarmid

Year of Study: Junior Year(third year)

Area of Study or Academic Interest: Social Work, with a focus in working in Africa with the Aids Crisis with orphans.

Where are you from: I was born in Scotland's capital city, Edinburgh and have traveled all over the world. I lived in Southern Germany when I was three. My parents brought my brother and I up to appreciate and understand other cultures. I moved to America in 1990, and lived in South Texas for 13 years. We moved up to Seattle, Washington in 2001 to attend the University of Washington and enjoy the Northwest weather and culture.

Hobbies/Interests: I enjoy traveling, especially road or train trips; I am on a Synchronized Figure Skating Team; I enjoy painting(not able to do it often), learning more about social work; interning for World Concern, and getting excited about my future as a social worker in Africa

Future plans and career goals: I plan to do my practicum placement in Niarobi, Kenya for 6 months. When I come back to Seattle, I will graduate in June 2005. I will be working with World Concern somewhere in Africa after that.

Family: I have a mother and a father and one brother. My mother is a Christian school teacher and my Dad works for a construction company. My brother has an English degree and is 25 years old. I have a beautiful dog named Bonnie.

Share one childhood dream: When I was a child, I wanted to become a air hostess so that I could travel all over the world.

How do you see yourself as useful in society: I will use what I have learned in my BASW degree and my experience working in Kenya through my practicum to my job placement. I am excited about my possibilites for my future with World Concern. I plan to work with Aids orphans and other people who are largely forgotten by society.
