HIPAA Privacy and Information Security Training

Policy requires all UW Medicine workforce members receive applicable training to help protect the privacy, confidentiality, and security of our patients’ protected health information. Most UW Medicine workforce are guided to take patient privacy training through an automated email notification.

Completion Notification

Due to a training content refresh, completion dates are as followed:

Workforce hired on or before December 15, 2017, must complete training by December 31, 2017. Workforce hired between December 16, 2017, and January 15, 2018, or who did not complete the historical training by December 31, 2017, will have the refreshed training content available to them on January 16 ,2018, and must complete it in 60 days. Workforce also receive applicable privacy training by:

A new workforce member with a duration of engagement less than 30 calendar days is required to complete privacy training entitled, “UW Medicine HIPAA Temporary Workforce Member/Student Self Study,” or attest to proof of training of comparable quality at another institution by signing the form entitled, “HIPAA Training Certification.”

If an existing workforce member’s job functions changes due to new responsibilities or a position change within UW, additional training may be required. Contact UW Medicine Compliance for more information.
