Mission
The Physiology and Aging Core (PAC) in the Department of Comparative Medicine is designed to provide physiological assessment and colony management of mouse lines for investigators at the University of Washington on a fee for service basis. The physiological assessment procedures will initially consist of (1) Metabolic Function, to include Quantitative Magnetic Resonance (QMR) imaging; (2) Motor function, to include Running Wheels, Rotarod, Grip Strength, and Mobility in an open field; (3) Cognitive function, to include a modified Barnes water tread maze; (4) Ultrasound, to confirm pregnancy or liver tumor size; (5) Colony Management; and (6) Longevity Studies. These assays are designed to provide physiological readouts for cardiac function, body composition, neuromuscular capability, exercise potential, cognitive competence, or the confirmation of pregnancy or liver tumor. Colony management will maintain mice for breeding and experiments including longevity studies, or other services by arrangement.
