BEFORE YOU ORDER...
There are a number of things that need to happen before animals
can be ordered and received for research.
- All animal handlers and investigators must be on an Approved
Protocol List. To be listed on the protocol each person
must complete a training session offered through the University's
Animal Care and Use Committee.
- No animals may be ordered without an Approved Project
Review. The Animal Care and Use Committee has forms that
must be filled out in full describing the nature of the
research and the procedures that will be followed to ensure
the best care and use of the animals. Any significant change
in the research or personnel will also require approval
from the committee. Forms are available online or contact
Nona Phillips at the Office of Animal Welfare, nonap@u.washington.edu.
- If investigators
and animal handlers need access to a facility
they must first meet all the training prerequisites. To verify that
you have met the training requirements please visit their website or contact
the Training Coordinator at auts@u.washington.edu.
Approved Vendors
Orders must be in by noon Tuesday to be received the
following week. Delivery days are M, T, W, or Th, depending on the vendor.
Non-Approved Vendors / Importing
Please click the link above to read the process and instructions for ordering animals from Non-Approved Vendors and Importing animals from other Institutions.
The processing time and delivery of animals from Non-Approved
Vendors varies. Domestic vendors can often supply animals
within one to two weeks if everything goes smoothly. Foreign
vendors may take longer, often two to four weeks if there
are no problems with the order. If the University standards
are not met in the Health
Reports, delays will occur. On occasion requests may
take considerably longer to be received. If the vendor or
institution cannot meet the required standards an order
may be cancelled. This very rarely occurs as the people in
charge of Quality Assurance will do everything they can
to help the vendor meet our standards.
