(To Add a Cage to the Census)

For new orders:

  • Cards will automatically be activated on date animals are received, and the barcoded activation strips located below the perforation will be removed BEFORE distribution.
  • Cage cards will be placed in the Barcode Census ABSL2/3 notebook.
  • You must place the duplicate barcoded cage card on the animal cage.

For animal, protocol or budget transfers:

  • The old barcoded cage card located in the Barcode Census notebook is to be deactivated with the strip located above the perforation, dated on the day of the transfer, removed and placed in the drop box outside the room.
  • The new duplicate barcoded cage cards’ activation strips located below the perforation are to be removed, one copy is to be dated with the activation date (the day after the transfer), and placed in the drop box inside the room.
  • Place one cage card into the ABSL2/3 Barcode Census Notebook outside the corresponding room the animals are housed in.  Place matching Barcoded Cage Card on the animal cage.

To be used on, separating, replacement cards, etc:

  • For the new cage the barcoded activation strip located below the perforation is to be dated with the activation date, removed, and placed in the drop box inside the room.  
  • Place the cage card into the ABSL2/3 Barcode Census Notebook outside the corresponding room the animals are housed in.  Place duplicate Barcoded Cage Card on the animal cage.

For reprinted replacement cards:

  • Check to make sure barcode numbers on the reprinted card(s) match the cards you are replacing.
  • Dispose of old card and place reprinted card on animal cage and/or in the Barcode Census Notebook.
