The Veterinary Pathology Section provides access to a number of comparative pathologists that are faculty members or affiliates in the Department of Comparative Medicine. The role of the pathologists in this program is to assist investigators in the interpretation of data collected from histopathology, immunohistochemistry, live cell imaging, and tissue imaging to better understand how research on animal models translates into treatments for human diseases. Another important role of the veterinary pathology section is to assist in monitoring the health and welfare of the animal colonies at the University of Washington. This is accomplished through the University of Washington Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratories (UWVDL), which is directed by Dr. Treuting.
