SEROLOGY

Serology is a blood test to detect the presence of antibodies against a microorganism. Serology is performed on serum using a variety of testing modalities, most commonly Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA) and Indirect Fluorescent Antibody (IFA) testing. The UWVDL has purchased a Multiplex Fluorescent Immunoassay (MFI) system (Luminex) that will replace the traditional ELISA and offer increased sensitivity and specificity, survival bleeds, small sample size (20 µl of undiluted serum).
