Piper Meigs Treuting received her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Louisiana State University in 1996 and began a post-doctoral fellowship in the University of Washington Department of Comparative Medicine the same year. In August of 2000 she received her Master of Science from the UW Department of Comparative Medicine and joined the faculty as a Senior Fellow in the position of Chief of the Rodent Health Monitoring Program. Dr. Treuting received board certification in veterinary anatomic pathology by the American College of Veterinary Pathologists in September of 2001. Currently, Dr. Treuting co-directs UW Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory where she is Chief of Pathological Services. Additionally, Dr. Treuting serves as the consulting veterinary pathologist for the South Lake Union Histology and Imaging Core which is slated to be opened in September, 2008.
Research and Academic Interests
Dr. Treuting’s overall research interest is focused on the
pathology of genetically modified mice. Current collaborative projects
include mouse models of colon cancer, Helicobacter-associated pathology
in rodents, the role of retinoids in breast cancer and aging in
mice genetically resistant to oxidative stress, among others. Dr.
Treuting coordinates the comparative pathology rotation, weekly
AFIP rounds and much of the pathology coursework offered by the
Department.
