Selected Topics: Comparative Pathology for Scientists

Ø     C MED 590 is three-credit course designed to provide graduate students with a better understanding of comparative pathology and physiology as applied to animal models of human disease.

Ø     Graduate students in environmental health, pharmaceutics, toxicology, pathobiology, pharmacology, bioengineering and others considering a career path in either academic research or in the biotechnology industry will find this course especially useful.

Ø     This course offers an introduction to the interpretation of pathological changes in animals used for biomedical research, with a focus on the mouse, but including comparative pathology of other species.

Ø     Structured as a problem-based learning (PBL) course and taught by a team of scientists from both academia and industry with expertise in a variety of disciplines.

Ø     It is expected that students will have a basic understanding of anatomy and physiology prior to taking this class.

Ø     Class size will be between 5 to 15 students

Ø     The class will be open to upper level undergraduates with specific approval.
