Application Process
While the primary function of the Counseling Center is to provide counseling services to students of the University of Washington, the Center maintains a strong commitment to facilitating each intern's transition from trainee to professional psychologist. Thus, we are looking for people who are flexible and interested in learning, but who also have the maturity and skills to offer quality services under the supervision of our professional staff. Specifically, we require the following:
- Candidates must have majored in counseling or clinical psychology, and must have completed the following courses: psychopathology, counseling theory and technique, ethics, educational/psychological testing, and a minimum of 1000 hours of practicum.
- Candidates must have passed their doctoral qualifying examinations prior to the commencement of the internship, and be certified by their academic training director as ready for the internship experience.
Selection Process
Online application materials are screened by an intern application committee. Applicants are rated by this committee based on their online materials. Applicants whose training and professional goals most closely parallel the training opportunities available at the UW Counseling Center will be invited to participate in a telephone interview. The training program at the Counseling Center adheres to the Association of Psychology Postdoctoral and Internship Program's (APPIC) guidelines regarding offers and acceptances. Our Center participates in the APPIC Matching Program for Psychology Internship Positions. Application Procedures
Applications should include the following:
- Completed AAPI Online*, which includes a cover letter, a curriculum vitae, the actual application (which includes essays and your program's DCT's verification of eligibility and and readiness), all graduate transcripts, and either three or four letters of recommendation (two of which must be from clinical supervisors).
