Summer Programs: 7th-10th grade classes

Program Overview

Summer Stretch is a summer academic program for students finishing 7th, 8th, or 9th grade (qualified students currently in 10th grade may be admitted to Fast-Paced Math, Biology, or Chemistry). Classes will meet June 30 - August 1, 2008 from 9:00am - 2:30pm on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday every week. Note: final exams will take place on the last Friday morning of the session.

All Summer Stretch classes are designed for academically advanced middle and high school students, and offer an opportunity for vigorous academic challenge in the company of other capable students.

Students who wish to apply to Summer Stretch must take a college entrance exam: either the ACT or SAT. Please note that each class has specific admission requirements.

Courses are fast-paced and roughly at the 9th and 10th grade levels, though math course offerings are available up to the Pre-Calculus level.

Students enroll in one course for the entire five weeks. Course equivalency varies from one semester to one academic year. Some high schools award credit for these courses; yours may or may not. If you desire credit and/or apppropriate placement, you must check with your school prior to applying to this program.

Please note that this is not an "enrichment" program. The amount of required homework is substantial and to be taken seriously. Daily attendance is required in all classes, and participating concurrently in other time-demanding programs is not recommended.

Students participate in Summer Stretch for a variety of reasons: an interest in a particular subject area; a desire for a challenging college-preparatory experience; a boost toward taking advanced placement courses; advancement toward an earlier graduation; or more room in their high school programs for electives and activities they would otherwise have to pass up.

The fee for Summer Stretch is $850, and includes tuition and books. Some classes will have an additional technology fee. Financial aid is available to those who qualify.

Note: 6th grade students will only be allowed to take Summer Stretch's Integrated 1. Interested students must register for the ACT or the SAT to qualify. ACT or SAT paper applications are typically available at high school counselor offices, or parents can register for a student online. Students under 13 must submit a paper application for the SAT.
