Parents as Partners by Dr. Nancy Robinson
Nancy M. Robinson (Stanford University Ph.D. in Developmental and Child Clinical Psychology, 1958) is
Professor Emerita of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the University of Washington and former
Director of what is now known as the Halbert and Nancy Robinson Center for Young Scholars. She moved
to the UW in 1969 from the University of North Carolina. Known previously for her work in mental
retardation, her research interests since 1981 have focused on the effects of marked academic
acceleration to college, adjustment issues of gifted children, and verbal and mathematical precocity
in very young children. She continues her work in assessment and counseling with gifted children and
their families through the Robinson Center. Prof. Robinson is currently on the editorial boards of
the Gifted Child Quarterly and the Journal of Youth and Adolescence, and is chair of advisory
committees to the U. S. State Department Office of Overseas Schools and the Advanced Academy of
Georgia. She is also on the board of Open Window School. She received the 1998 Distinguished Scholar
Award from the National Association for Gifted Children (NAGC).
How Parents Can Help Their Kids To Develop Their Talents by Dr. Kathleen Noble and Dr. Nancy Sisko
Dr. Kathleen Noble (University of Washington Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology, 1984) is the Director of the Robinson
Center for Young Scholars, a Professor of Women Studies, and a licensed psychologist. Dr. Noble's research focuses
on issues of highly capable women and adolescents, the ways in which talents and gifts shape women's lives in ways
that are distinct from men, the efficacy of early entrance to college and university, and the relationship of
spirituality to resilience and psychological health.
Dr. Nancy Sisko is the Associate Director for the Transition School/Early Entrance Program and an Affiliate Assistant Professor of English at the University of Washington. She earned her Ph.D. at the University of Washington in English in 1992. Dr. Sisko serves as the Principal of Transition School and the English instructor for Transition School/Early Entrance Program, where she has taught literature and writing since 1996.
NWGCA presentation by Northwest Gifted Child Association (NWGCA)
NWGCA President Ann Koch and friends will acquaint the audience with some of the important
organizations that serve gifted children and their families in our state.
Location
The conference will be held in the Physics/Astronomy Auditorium - Room A102 on the University of Washington campus. There will be a brown bag lunch discussion held at the Robinson Center in Guthrie Annex 2. The closest parking lot is the Central Plaza Parking Garage. Parking is $5.
Registration
The registration fee is $30 per person. If you are a participant in the Washington Search for Young Scholars (WSYS) or the Northwest Gifted Child Association (NWGCA), the registration fee is $20 per person. If your child is eligible for free or reduced-price school lunches, the registration fee is waived ($0.00). Online registration for the Parents as Partners February 3, 2007 Conference, has ended. If you would like to attend the conference, please arrive early to register at the door. Note: Cash or check only.
