The Pacific West MCH Distance Learning Network has developed three self-study curricula for health professionals to strengthen nutrition services for children with special health care needs and their families.
- Nutrition For Children With Special Health Care Need – Self Study Curriculum: Information on functional assessment and interventions for children with special health care needs. This distance-learning activity is designed for RDs and other health care professionals who see children with special health care needs as part of their clinical practices. The curriculum consists of six modules; each module is approved for 1 CEU from the ADA/CDR.
- Nutrition For Children With Special Health Care Needs –Group Study Curriculum (four modules, one CEU each): Integrates knowledge of clinical nutrition and systems of care to improve service delivery. Powerpoint presentations, handout masters, video vignettes, and leaders' guides are available for download on the project website.
- Nutrition and Oral Health – Self Study Curriculum (five modules, one CEU each): Proper nutrition plays a major role in preventive care, which is an important activity that can be performed by many health care providers. The modules address nutrition-related issues around oral health, including screening, prevention, and treatment.
The web-based curricula can be accessed free-of-charge; there is a charge for continuing education credits. For more information about the curricula and the Pacific West Distance Learning Network, download the 2-page brochure.
