A Portrait of an Artist as a Teacher

Hello and welcome!

The online portfolio you are about to enter stands as the culminating project for completing the University of Washington's Teacher Education Program. The portfolio is a collection of vignettes, or glimpses, into my experiences, learning, and growth as a teacher. When viewed as a whole the collage of interconnected pieces creates a working portrait of my teaching. As with all final undertakings, this project celebrates a beginning. It, in part, captures the beginning of my continuing journey into the art of teaching.

I have not embarked on this venture alone or without support. Many dedicated and extraordinary people have encouraged, aided, and supported me throughout the program. Many heartfelt thanks go out to Michele Starkey, David Kline, Dianne Hanson, and Cynthia Chesak, for their outstanding mentorship, care, and support. Thank you each for helping to temper my courage and desire to teach.

Finally, I give my extreme and loving gratitude to my best friend and partner, Alicia, and our effervescent daughter Danielle. Through laughter, love, and companionship they have supported me in this grand endeavor.
