Cherry Trees March 13, 2007

The peak bloom of the cherry blossoms in the Liberal Arts Quad is usually during spring break, and they appear to be on schedule this year. The photo above was taken on March 13 and the buds are 2-3 days from opening, depending on the temperature.
Warmer temperatures could hasten flowering, while colder weather might delay it slightly.
In either case, if you visit campus beginning this Friday March 16 through Sunday March 25, 2007,
you are likely to see a profusion of Yoshino cherry blossoms (Prunus x yedoensis).
For a more exact forecast, keep your eyes out for the cherry cam, expected to go live in the next few days.
