Matthew Golden, MD

  • Professor, Division of Allergy and Infectious Diseases
  • University of Washington
  • Director, PHSKC STD Control Program

Dr. Golden is the Director of the Public Health - Seattle & King County HIV/STD Control Program. The primary focus of Dr. Golden's group is on operational research evaluating new public health interventions to control sexually transmitted infections (STIs), including HIV. This work is conducted as a collaboration between UW and Public Health – Seattle & King County (PHSKC), and provides fellows training opportunities that integrate research and public health practice.

Ongoing research projects include evaluations of population-based interventions to improve the HIV care cascade, a study of seroadaptive behaviors among men who have sex with men, and research on new treatments for gonorrhea, and a spectrum of HIV/STD surveillance projects. The group's research is interdisciplinary and seeks to capitalize on the diverse expertise available through the university and PHSKC. Opportunities for fellows with an interest in public health include both long-term research projects, and public health practicums completed as part of the requirements for an MPH degree. In addition, our group has a new CDC grant that provides capacity-building assistance to U.S. health departments and could involve trainees anticipating careers in public health practice.
