CURRENT RESEARCH INTERESTS

Dr. Coombs' research activities include the development of quantitative methods for studying cell-free and cell-associated HIV load in different biologic compartments and the role of these biologic determinants of HIV infection as surrogates for clinical outcome. Of particular interest has been the elucidation of the virologic compartmentalization of HIV between the blood and genital tract and the role of potential cofactor for regulating HIV shedding in the male and female genital tracts.
