N E W    B A B I E S :    Congratulations to John Scott and his wife on their new baby boy, born June 10th, weighing in at 9 pounds
        5 ounces, 21 ½" long! 
        Congratulations to William Berrington and his wife on the birth of their baby girl, born June 30th, weighing 6 pounds and 2 ounces!

    P R O M O T I O N S :   Congratulations to Martin Siegel for promotion to Clinical Professor; to Peter Shalit for promotion to Clinical
        Associate Professor; and to Margot Schwartz for being promoted to Clinical Assistant Professor, all effective July 1, 2006.  These
        promotions are well deserved in recognition of their outstanding contributions to our teaching programs.

    N E W    G R A N T S :  Congratulations to David Koelle who has received a new 4-year RO1, entitled, "Vaccinia: T-cell immunity
        and homing to skin."
        Congratulations also to Fred Buckner who recently received a new 4-year RO1, entitlted, "Rational Development of
        Anti-Trypanosoma cruzi Drugs.

    N E W    I D S A    F E L L O W S :  The Infectious Diseases Society of America Board of Directors recently elected Anna Wald,
        Julie McElrath, and Jeff Duchin as new IDSA Fellows.  The fellow category of membership recognizes and honors those who have
        achieved professional excellence in infectious diseases and related fields.

    C O N G R A T U L A T I O N S : to Karol Bomsztyk, senior author of "Free-energy Distribution of Binary Protein-Protein Binding
        Suggests Cross-species Interactome Differences," to be published August 1 in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.
        The paper represents a collaboration with researchers in applied mathematics and physics, funded by a grant from the National
        Institute of General Medical Sciences to study complex biological systems. Coauthors are Yi Y. Shi, Gerald A. Miller and Hong
        Qian.

    F E L L O W S    T R A V E L     A W A R D S :  Congratulations to Chris Czaja, who will receive a travel grant in the amount of
        $1,200 to attend the 44th Annual Meeting of IDSA in Toronto, Canada, in October, in recognition of excellence for his abstract
        submission.

    and Tuesday, September 26th.  The seminar schedule and topics include:
        Laboratory Safety Practices at the UW 8:00-10:20am offered each morning.
        Fire Extinguisher Training 10:30-11:30am offered each morning.
        Managing Hazardous Chemicals in the Workplace 12:30-2:30 Monday ONLY.
        Bloodborne Pathogens for Researchers 2:45-4:45pm Monday ONLY
        Biosafety Training 12:30-2:30 Tuesday ONLY.
        Field Research Health Hazards 2:45-4:45pm Tuesday ONLY.

C I A    T R A I N I N G :  The CIA year is from May 1 through April 30, each year until 2009.  Training completed before April 2006
    was for year 2; training done after May 1, 2006, is for year 3.  New providers must take year 1 training (6-hour online course).
