N E W    A P P O I N T M E N T S:  Welcome to Florian Hladik, who joins our faculty as a Research Assistant Professor, Feb 1st.  Florian received
    his medical and graduate education at the University of Vienna, following which he did residencies in Hematology, Dermatology and Plastic Surgery
    before coming to the UW to do his ID Fellowship (1995-98).  He returned briefly to Vienna as an Acting Instructor in the Department of Dermatology
    at the University of Vienna and then returned to Seattle as a Research Associate and then Associate in Clinical Research in the Program in Infectious
    Diseases, Division of Clinical Research at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center with Julie McElrath.  Florian has published his recent work in the
    Journal of Virology and the Journal of Immunology, among others.  He has an RO1 on Oral HIV Pathogenesis and Shedding and a KO8 on
    Mechanisms of Mucosal HIV Transmission and recently resubmitted an RO1 on Mechanisms of HIV-1 Transmission in the Genital Tract of Women. 
    He will continue his primary research activities involving the study of mucosal immunopathogenesis of HIV infection.  Florian has presented his work
    at the past two International Microbicides Meetings in Antwerpt, Belgium (2002), and London, England (2004) and at the World AIDS Conference
    in Bangkok, Thialand (2004).

C O N G R A T  U  L A T I O N S  to Caroline Cameron who had a baby boy Jan 8th.  He weighed 7 lbs 6 oz.  Very exciting for Caroline and her
    husband, Guy.

I   D     D I N N E R :  Merck is sponsoring an ID Dinner February 15, 2006.  Dr. Michael Pfaller will be the guest speaker.  Lori Tollefsen will send
    out invitations shortly.  Please save this evening on your calendar.

M A N D A T O R Y   U W P   C O M P L I A N C E   T R A I N I N G :    This training is a requirement as part of our Corporate Integrity
    Agreement (CIA).  Clinical faculty members must complete one hour of General Training plus at least three hours of Specific Training annually.  The
    one-hour general education regarding the CIA and related UWP policies training will be available online in the near future.  The three-hour
    specialty-specific education regarding documentation and coding training will be provided as live sessions.  The Division has one more live session
    scheduled for Feb 2nd.

H I P A A    A U D I T S :  There are several types of audits occurring now:  random audits, role-based access audits, verification that access privileges
    have been removed for employees no longer working within UW system, visits to specific departments to access compliance of privacy policy
    requirements, reviews of department’s success obtaining Acknowledgement of UW Medicine Notice of Privacy Practices, access of computer systems
    for compliance to information security requirements.  The auditing is required to meet regulatory and accreditation requirements and oversight of privacy,

     All sessions except the Feb 7th one will be in the OSP Conference Room.  There is no charge for the training but space is limited to 30 participants
