I D     R E T R E A T :  Please RSVP to Lori Tollefsen if you’ve not already done so.  ID Faculty/Fellows retreat will be March 23-24th this year at
    Friday Harbor. 

N E W    A P P O I N T M E N T S:  Welcome to Penelope Barnes who becomes an Acting Instructor in our Division effective March 1, 2006. 
    Dr. Barnes has been an ID fellow in our program since 2003.  She was educated at the University of London and did her post-graduate medical
    training at the University of Oxford.  She also did PhD Fellowship training at Oxford and Tufts University School of Medicine before coming to the UW. 
    She will be an active participant in the clinical care, teaching and research programs of the division at UWMC, HMC  the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance
    and at the FHCRC.  She will continue to focus on studying the immune responses to Aspergillus fumigatus, specifically, on continuing studies to evaluate
    human CD4+ responses to specific Aspergillus fumigatus antigens, and to evaluate pulmonary responses to Aspergillus antigens in a cystic fibrosis model.   

C O N G R A T  U  L A T I O N S  to Shireesha Dhanireddy for being awarded a Parker B. Francis Foundation grant.  The 3 year grant, entitled
    “Immunopathogenesis of Ventilator-induced Systemic Injury,” totals $138,000. 

C H A N G E S :  Caroline Cameron will resign as Research Assistant Professor with us on June 30th to accept a position as an Associate Professor at
    the University of Victoria, British Columbia.  She is the recipient of a Canada Research Chair in that position.  She will continue collaboration with Wes
    Van Voorhis and Sheila Lukehart, and we are working on developing an affiliate appointment for her.  We wish her the best and look forward to
    continued collaboration.

 M A N D A T O R Y       U W P     C O M P L I A N C E      T R A I N I N G :    UWP Corporate Integrity Agreement (CIA) training must be
    completed each year. 
    CIA Training consists of: 
          1)  a 3-hour live session AND
         2)   a 1-hour online training session.
    The CIA requires that all UWP providers and UWP administrative employees complete the training by MARCH 30th. 

    The general compliance online training course is now available at the new UWP website:
        https://depts.washington.edu/uwpsite/ComplianceSite/index.html

    The course must be completed in its entirety. At the end of the course, participants will be asked to take a Knowledge Assessment. Participants will
    need to complete, print and retain a copy of the Knowledge Assessment for their records and also send to Myrna. This will ensure that the participant
    receives credit for completing the training.

    The Division has scheduled two more live sessions for March 27 and March 30th, from 6:00pm to 9:00pm.   To sign up for the live sessions, please

G R A N T S . g o v :  NIH has moved the timeline for NIH RO1 proposal submissions to February 1, 2007.  Updates on the status of the transition to
    electronic submission and the new forms are posted on the NIH eRA Electronic Submission of Grant Applications Website.  To prepare for the
    implementation of Grants.gov electronic submission of NIH grant proposals, training is offered by OSP the following days:
        Monday March 13, 2006, 11:00 to noon
        Monday April 10, 2006, 11:00 to noon
        Monday May 8, 2006, 11:00 to noon
        Monday June 12, 2006 from 11 to noon
    All sessions will be in the OSP Conference Room.  There is no charge for the training but space is limited to 30 participants per session in the hands-on
    sessions at OSP.  Make your reservations to  osprsvp@u.washington.edu to reserve your space.  Please see OSP’s home page for updates.

S O M    L E C T U R E    S E R I E S :  The School of Medicine Office of Research and Graduate Education 2005-2006 Science in Medicine Lecture
    Series presents Thom Hughes, PhD., Associate Professor, Department of Cell Biology and Neuroscience, Montana State University, Thursday,
    March 16, 2006.  These lectures will be simultaneously video televised at HMC and VAPSHCS.  Please see

P E R F O R M A N C E    E V A L U A T I O N S :  All Classified and Professional staff should submit completed performance evaluations to Myrna by
    May 10th.  Should the state legislature approve merit increases this year, the performance evaluations will be used to determine merit increases for Professional
    Staff.  This year we are asking for updated job descriptions to be submitted along with the performance evaluations.  Supervisors should meet with their staff
    and discuss job performance based the individual’s job description.  If the duties and responsibilities have changed significantly, reclassification of the job
    should be considered (seeClassification/Reclassification at the website below):
