Research Opportunities
Pathogenesis of Bacterial, Fungal, and Parasitic Diseases
Emphasizes molecular studies of the virulence determinants integral to bacterial, fungal, and parasite pathogenesis. Of special interest are mechanisms of attachment and cellular invasion in Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Group B streptococci, Salmonella, Chlamydia trachomatis, Haemophilus ducreyi, Treponema pallidum, Aspergillus fumigatus, and Candida albicans infections. Potential drug targets and drug-development are being pursued for Trypanosoma cruzi, Trypanosoma brucei, Leishmania spp., and Plasmodium falciparum.
