Center (NW AETC), Seattle STD/HIV Prevention Training Center, and
many other training, research, and academic programs are tied to our
center.

The International AIDS Research and Training Program was initiated in
1988 with two grants from the Fogarty International Center with a primary
goal of fostering international collaborative AIDS research through
bilateral scientist exchange. The IARTP sponsors foreign researchers
who have come to the University of Washington for study and provides
funding for the University of Washington faculty to study abroad.
Northwest Regional Center of
Excellence
The Northwest Regional Center of Excellence for
Biodefense and Emerging Infectious Diseases centers on Research to help
protect the public from potential bioterrorism, and diseases that
present persistent and emerging threats to global health.
NW AIDS
Education and Training Center
The Northwest AIDS Education and Training Center (NW AETC), located at
the University of Washington, offers HIV treatment education, clinical
consultation, capacity building and technical assistance to health care
professionals and agencies in Washington, Alaska, Montana, Idaho and
Oregon.
The purpose of the NW AETC is to increase providers' capacity to provide
high quality HIV/AIDS care within the region's health care systems.
Our target audience includes doctors, nurses, nurse practitioners,
physician assistants, dental professional, clinical pharmacists, and
other members of the health care team.
We train providers from Ryan White CARE Act funded agencies,
federally funded community and migrant health centers, tribal health
clinics, state and local health departments, corrections facilities and
private practice settings serving persons with HIV and AIDS.
As the epidemic disproportionately affects racial and ethnic minorities
in the region, the NW AETC offers Minority AIDS Initiative programming
specifically targeting minority providers, providers serving
HIV-infected persons of color, and minority-specific community based
organizations.
The Northwest AETC also offers a national education program on
palliative care issues related to HIV/AIDS.
The NW AETC is part of a network of regional AETCs that cover the United
States, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
Funded through the Health Resources and Services Administration,
the national AETC network is the professional training arm of the Ryan
White Comprehensive AIDS Resource Emergency (CARE) Act.
