THEME: Community Connections

Workshops and events in the Community Connections track will introduce you to programs and organizations that bring together people who have similar interests. Come meet others involved in community-based activities that are located both on and near campus, and learn how to get involved!

Find out about public service opportunities, sign up to volunteer in the Medical Center, visit nearby museums, enjoy a dinner with people from U-district businesses and organizations, and explore other neighborhoods of Seattle by bus! Your new community doesn't end at the edge of campus.

U-District Farmers' Market

The University District Farmers' Market is Seattle's oldest and largest "farmers-only" neighborhood market. The market offers a place for farmers to sell their fresh produce and other products each week of the growing season. Walk or drive on down and explore your new neighborhood. You can also watch cooking demos, sample fresh produce, listen to live music, and obtain information from local non-profit organizations, all outdoors.

UW Dream Project: Find Your Community, While Helping the Community

Stock up on the supplies you need to start school. You're invited to a special UW student-only late-night event at Fred Meyer superstore on the Monday of Dawg Daze from 11pm until 1am. Free food, drinks, and a huge raffle with prizes like a 20" Flat Screen TV, a computer desk, a mountain bike, $100 gift card, and much more! Make sure you bring your UW student ID card (or your Dawg Pass) to get in the door, and receive a special savings certificate to buy anything from groceries to dorm essentials. All you have to do is show up at either Memorial Way (north of the flagpole) or out front of Terry-Lander Residence Hall starting as early as 10:00pm, and free bus shuttles will take you back and forth. Mapping Your Future: What Direction Are Your Genes Taking?

Learn about the School of Medicine's Institute for Surgical & Interventional Simulation (ISIS), where medical simulators help teach students and young doctors how to care for patients and manage medical emergencies. Find out what's going on in the Schools of Public Health and Community Medicine, Pharmacy, Nursing and Social Work. Dentistry will be handing out toothbrushes. UW Medical Center, Harborview Medical Center, and the CHDD Experimental Education Unit will be on hand to sign up student volunteers. Music, food, and up to 25 interactive and informative exhibits are on tap.
