The Civil War - Beyond the Battles and Untold Stories

Our Civil War often refers just to battles and generals, but underneath the story are failed attempts to reach compromises that could have avoided it. We will look at the pre-war events and the roles they played in pushing us into secession and war.
During the war we'll see the changing objectives of the Union, near intervention of England, implications of several military campaigns, the Confederacy's collapse and the legacy for the next century. We'll explore the strange personalities of the military and civilian leaders whose decisions influenced the conduct of the war and the peace that followed.

Wanna be like Jet Li? Come learn martial arts from the Husky Wushu Team. In this workshop you'll learn about the culture of Wushu, the Chinese martial art Jet Li mastered and was a champion of before going off to star in movies. You'll also get a chance to meet new people and get a small workout learning proper warm up techniques, ways to improve your flexibility, and basic Wushu moves. Also, don't miss the chance to see the Husky Wushu Team in action.

Experience new heights at the IMA's Indoor Climbing Center. The Center will be open Friday, September 19 - Monday, September 22 4:00-9:00pm, and Sunday, September 21, 6:00-9:30pm. Admission and equipment rentals will be free with your "Dawg Pass." Staff will be available to provide pointers and set you up properly. Prior climbing experience is not necessary. Your Husky Card gets you into the IMA and then just show your "Dawg Pass" at the Indoor Climbing Center to climb on up!

Hip Hop classes will be held each day in IMA Studio 111, cycling classes in the Indoor Cycling Studio, and Yoga classes in Studio 216. Your UW Husky Card will get you into the IMA Building. Then show your "Dawg Pass" to take part in the fun. If you do not have your "Dawg Pass," there will be a $5.45 drop-in fee to participate.

Late Night Shopping Event at Fred Meyer

Stock up on the supplies you need to start school. You're invited to a special UW student-only late-night event at Fred Meyer superstore on the Monday of Dawg Daze from 11pm until 1am. Free food, drinks, and a huge raffle with prizes like a 20" Flat Screen TV, a computer desk, a mountain bike, $100 gift card, and much more! Make sure you bring your UW student ID card (or your Dawg Pass) to get in the door, and receive a special savings certificate to buy anything from groceries to dorm essentials. All you have to do is show up at either Memorial Way (north of the flagpole) or out front of Terry-Lander Residence Hall starting as early as 10:00pm, and free bus shuttles will take you back and forth. It is best to arrive early to avoid the lines.
