NOTE: The deadline to include events in print publications has passed and rooms have been finalized for 2008. If you would still like to host an event and have scheduled a room on your own, you may fill out the Event Signup Form and the event will be included on the Dawg Daze website.
Join us in welcoming new students to campus during Dawg Daze 2008 - the festive week of welcome showcasing all the UW has to offer students in experiences, opportunity, and growth. The 2008 Dawg Daze program will run from Sunday, September 21 through Saturday, September 27, with classes beginning on Wednesday, September 24 this year.
In an effort to tailor the program to the desires and needs of our new transfer and freshman students, we have learned some concrete things students would like to see in the 2008 Dawg Daze program. Please consider this evaluation to help you envision your event/activity/workshop for this year:
What do new students want during Dawg Daze? Students tell us they want to:
- Learn more about the spectrum of programs offered here, especially lesser known majors, programs, opportunities, etc.
- Meet other UW students who share similar interests
- Be less intimidated by faculty (students want to connect but don't know how)
- Create avenues for a healthy balance to their academic pursuits - through involvement in the arts, sports skills classes, clubs, social events, etc.
As an institution, we have interest in exposing new students to a variety of experiences, including:
- Encounter diversity in a multi-faceted way - inclusiveness includes race, gender, disability, class, sexual identity/orientation, religion, national origin, age, ethnicity, culture, region/geography, indigenous, and ideological differences
- Demonstrate that the UW cares about them, and recognizes the challenges of learning to navigate this big place
- Provide connections between faculty and students in informal, meaningful ways
- Help them learn to navigate the UW before the fast pace of Fall quarter begins
Dawg Daze is fast approaching! This is our official Call for Programs, your chance to submit your workshop or event.
Here's How:
- Go to the web application form. If you would like to have a copy of the questions before you fill out the web form, please download the pdf version.
- Submissions for Dawg Daze 2008 will be due Friday, June 20, 2008 at 5:00 pm to be included in print publications. Late or last-minute event/workshop additions will be added to the continually updated Dawg Daze website.
