Lady in driftwood Texts

Elma Nicholas was from Swiftwater (on the Innoko R.), downriver from Shageluk.

Edna Deacon, Elma's daughter Cecelia Nicholas(?) and others were present at the time of the recording. The cassette tape box was labelled ``Lady in Driftwood.'' The recording was made available by Donna MacAlpine.

Two versions of the story are provided here, Elma's original story and Edna's retelling of the story. Edna listened to Elma phrase by phrase and repeated what she heard. The rerecording was made because Elma apparently had some laryngeal disorder at the time of the recording of this story. This makes it hard for non-native speakers to understand her.
