The University of Washington has a number of programs and offices that connect with Health Sciences Schools for international projects. As we move into the future, at the GHRC we see that improving upon those links is an important step toward progress in developing solutions to the world's health issues. University of Washington, Tacoma campus is part of that vision.

International Programs

The UW Tacoma International Programs website is your guide to valuable resources for study abroad opportunities offered through UW Tacoma. We are the office that implements and coordinates all UW Tacoma international travel courses and exchange programs. Programs include Social Welfare in Norway, Society and Culture in Cuba, and an Australia/New Zealand Program in Cities and the Environment.

Health Sciences Schools

UWT School of Nursing, Affiliated with the top-ranked University of Washington School of Nursing at the Seattle campus, the Nursing Program at the University of Washington, Tacoma, provides two degree opportunities for registered nurses: a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) and a Master of Nursing (MN).

UWT School of Social Work, Master of Social Work (MSW) degree was established in 1998 and was accredited as a three-year, part-time alternative degree program of the University of Washington, Seattle (UWS) School of Social Work (SSW). The Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in Social Welfare (commonly referred to as the BASW Program) was established in 2002 and was likewise accredited as an alternative program of the University of Washington School of Social Work.

Undergraduate Programs

Prospective International Students: International Student Undergraduate Admissions Information.

The Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Science is for students who wish to pursue scientific or technical work upon graduation, who plan to apply to graduate programs in scientific fields, or who want a strong grounding in the pure and applied science disciplines. Students can also participate in a Minor in Environmental.

The UWT Global Honors Program serves students in all undergraduate majors who wish to enter careers directed toward the real needs of our region and our world at a time when the emerging global economy is transforming our planet. It appeals to students transferring to UWT as juniors who recognize the need for a more complete and sophisticated understanding of world problems than would be available to them in their academic majors.

The Asian Studies minor offers students the opportunity to develop a well-rounded understanding of the countries and cultures of Asia. The courses enable students to fit the Asian experience into a theoretical context of global patterns of modernization and economic development while focusing on specific historical and cultural elements in Asian countries.

The Minor in Human Rights, An option for students who are interested in the rapidly emerging field of human rights. This is a coordinated tri-campus initiative (UW-Tacoma, UW-Seattle and UW-Bothell). Students benefit from being able to choose from many courses on different campuses, as well as meeting and collaborating with students from other programs. Students may, but are not required to, take courses from more than one campus in order to earn the minor.

Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration (B.A.B.A.) Informal Option in International Business provides a focused course of study from the perspective of the global environment. Courses in the option are designed to emphasize the economic reality of the global marketplace and effective performance in the dynamic international-business arena. The electives from Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences provide for further study in international culture, religion and economics. Students are required to develop a portfolio to demonstrate their integrative learning. The option is intended to prepare students for positions in international divisions of American companies; to work in the import-export business; to seek careers in national or international governmental agencies; to establish international businesses; and to enter careers in international commercial and investment banking.

The Global Studies concentration allows students to study a variety of subjects and themes in an international context, including artistic, cultural, political and economic patterns among and within other nations. Advanced language study is an integral component of global studies. Students may choose to focus their studies on one or more world regions or specific themes.
