UW Center for AIDS and STD, established in July, 1989, provides patient care, research, training and education, and international technical assistance for HIV/AIDS and STD. The Center is administered by the UW in collaboration with several other institutions throughout the Pacific Northwest and in several other countries. The mission for the Center is to prevent transmission of HIV and other sexually transmitted infection, and to reduce human suffering caused by these infections.

Center for AIDS Research
Our mission is to foster collaborative and interdisciplinary research, support HIV research career development of young investigators, and serve HIV investigators at our affiliated institutions.

Center for Health Education and Research (CHER is a diverse, multidisciplinary team devoted to enhancing health and quality of life for individuals and communities through education, training and research.

ITECH: International Training and Education Center on HIV leads a consortium of international and domestic partners with expertise in diverse areas of HIV/AIDS planning, clinical care, training and support. I-TECH seeks to serve both as a conduit of state-of-the-art, resource-appropriate clinical expertise and a partner in the development and evolution of self-sustaining training systems to advance the scope and quality of HIV/AIDS care and support.

Assistant Professor Stephen E. Hawes, PhD, MS Epidemiology

Dr. Hawes's primary interests are in sexually transmitted infections and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). His current research is conducted in Seattle and Senegal , West Africa and concerns the role of HIV, human papillomavirus (HPV) and other sexually transmitted infections in the natural history of cervical neoplasia, as well as the study of biomarkers for various cancers including cancer of the cervix, breast, and skin.

Associate Professor Gary M. Goldbaum, MD, MPH

Dr. Goldbaum's research interests are in behaviors that increase risk of injury or illness, applied epidemiology, especially HIV/AIDS surveillance. He is currently studying drug use and sexual behaviors that increase risk of sexually transmitted diseases such as AIDS.

Assistant Professor Scott McClelland, MD, MPH

Dr. McClelland is interested in the epidemiology of HIV-1 in resource poor countries. His research concentrates on the heterosexual transmission of HIV-1 in Kenya, including studies of interventions to decrease HIV-1 susceptibility and infectivity in high-risk women.

Lifelong AIDS Alliance is committed to preventing the spread of HIV, and to providing practical support services and advocating for those whose lives are affected by HIV and AIDS.

King County HIV/AIDS Program
We collaborate with local communities to: develop and provide effective HIV prevention programs; deliver compassionate, comprehensive, and quality care services to those affected by HIV; and evaluate the effectiveness of what we do.

People of Color Against AIDS Network (POCAAN) is a multi-cultural AIDS prevention organization created in response to the devastating impact that HIV/AIDS was and continues to have on communities of color. In Washington State , POCAAN brings people of color together across differences of race, gender, class and sexual orientation to achieve its mission.

BABES Network is a peer led agency; a sisterhood of women facing HIV together. BABES enhances quality of life and serves the needs of women facing HIV by providing peer support, advocacy, education, and outreach.

International Community Health Services provides culturally appropriate HIV/AIDS prevention education, support, and advocacy for all Asian and Pacific Islanders.

Planned Parenthood (Seattle and International)

Rise n' Shine is non-profit organization dedicated to offering support to children and teens affected by HIV and AIDS.

Harborview Hospital Madison Clinic provides medical care and social services for persons living with HIV/AIDS regardless of sexual orientation, race, or ability to pay.

Multifaith Works builds a community of compassion by mobilizing volunteers from many spiritual and cultural backgrounds to provide practical and emotional support, and housing, for people living with AIDS or other life-threatening illnesses. Through all its programs, Multifaith Works promotes understanding and acceptance of human diversity.

Urgent Africa is a non-profit organization that offers assistance to people infected with and affected by HIV/AIDS in Africa . Beyond the inherent suffering and loss of life, AIDS has decimated the work force, impoverished families, and orphaned millions. Urgent Africa works in partnership with villages to provide health services, education and support to widows and orphans, and works in cooperation with their villages to build healthy, self-sufficient and economically sustainable communities.

Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation
The mission of our Global Health program is to ensure that people in the developing world have the same chance for good health as people in the developed world. We see a tremendous opportunity to save millions of lives through the development and distribution of health tools and strategies – some new, some already in use. HIV/AIDS: To slow the global spread of HIV, the foundation supports the development of vaccines and other tools and strategies with the potential to prevent tens of millions of infections and deaths. We also fund comprehensive initiatives that include both prevention and treatment.

AIDS Action is a national organization dedicated to the development, analysis, cultivation, and encouragement of sound policies and programs in response to the HIV epidemic.

Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation (Santa Monica, Washington DC , New York)
The Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation creates a future of hope for children and families worldwide by eradicating pediatric AIDS, providing care and treatment to people with HIV/AIDS, and accelerating the discovery of new treatments for other serious and life-threatening pediatric illnesses.

UNAIDS
UNAIDS' mission is to lead, strengthen and support an expanded response to HIV and AIDS that includes preventing transmission of HIV, providing care and support to those already living with the virus, reducing the vulnerability of individuals and communities to HIV and alleviating the impact of the epidemic.

CDC: National Center for HIV Prevention
As a part of its overall public health mission, CDC provides national leadership in helping control the HIV epidemic by working with community, state, national, and international partners in surveillance, research, prevention, and evaluation activities.

World Health Organization (WHO): HIV/AIDS
As the directing and coordinating authority on international health, the World Health Organization (WHO) takes the lead within the UN system in the global health sector response to HIV/AIDS. The HIV/AIDS Department provides evidence-based, technical support to WHO Member States to help them scale up treatment, care and prevention services with a broad health sector approach and ensure a comprehensive and sustainable response to HIV/AIDS.

International AIDS Society (Geneva , Switzerland)
IAS is the world's leading independent association of HIV/AIDS professionals. IAS is a worldwide force of professionals working together to prevent, control and treat HIV/AIDS.

International AIDS Vaccine Initiative (IAVI) is a global not-for-profit organization working to speed the search for a vaccine to prevent HIV infection and AIDS. Founded in 1996 and operational in 23 countries, IAVI and its network of partners research and develop vaccine candidates. IAVI also advocates for a vaccine to be a global priority and works to assure that a future vaccine will be accessible to all who need it.

AVERT is an international HIV and AIDS charity based in the UK , with the aim of AVERTing HIV and AIDS worldwide.

The mission of the International HIV/AIDS Alliance (the Alliance ) is to reduce the spread of HIV and meet the challenges of AIDS.

Family Health International (FHI)
Since forming our first AIDS Task Force in 1986, FHI has worked to address the needs of communities and countries affected by HIV/AIDS. We provide state-of-the-art interventions to identify what is needed, tailor programs to local needs, and advocate for compassionate, realistic and appropriately resourced responses.

Engender Health works worldwide to improve the lives of individuals by making reproductive health services safe, available, and sustainable. We provide technical assistance, training, and information, with a focus on practical solutions that improve services where resources are scarce.

Centre for HIV/AIDS and STD Research (Nigeria) is a duly registered non-governmental organization, with the major aim of serving as a library and resource centre for research into the origin, demographic spread, advancements in research findings as well as available vaccines and/or treatment of HIV/AIDS & other STDs.

National Association of People with AIDS (NAPWA)
Founded in 1983, the National Association of People with AIDS is a non-profit membership organization that advocates on behalf of all people living with HIV and AIDS in order to end the pandemic and the human suffering caused by HIV/AIDS.

National Native American AIDS Prevention Center
The National Native American AIDS Prevention Center's mission is to stop the spread of HIV and related diseases among American Indians, Alaskan Natives, Native Hawaiians, and to improve the quality of life for those infected and affected by HIV/AIDS.

CHANGE: The Center for Health and Gender Equity (Maryland, USA)
The Center for Health and Gender Equity (CHANGE) is a U.S.-based non-governmental organization focused on the effects of U.S. international policies on the health and rights of women, girls, and other vulnerable populations in Africa, Asia, and Latin America.

Critical Path AIDS Project was founded by people with HIV/AIDS to provide treatment, resource, and prevention information in wide-ranging levels of detail–for researchers, service providers, treatment activists – but, first and foremost, for other people with HIV/AIDS who often find themselves in urgent need of information quickly and painlessly.
