Research

Global health research is perhaps the greatest existing strength at the UW. The Department of Global Health will approach the problems of the world from a broad  perspective, in collaboration with international programs across the UW and throughout the Seattle community. The University of Washington currently has over 300 faculty, fellows, and research scientists involved in Global Health research and training in over 50 countries throughout the world.  During FY06 over 250 Grants and Contracts related to Global Health totaling more than $100M were awarded to the University of Washington.

UW/FHCRC Center for AIDS Research (CFAR)
CFAR is an NIH-funded grant that provides infrastructure services and support for multidisciplinary research

Global AIDS Medical Informatics Training Program
The CFAR Global AIDS Medical Informatics Training Program (CFAR-GAMIT) will be held at the University of Washington, in Seattle, from July 11-14th, 2006. The CFAR-GAMIT is funded by the National Institutes of Health and is cosponsored by the Centers for AIDS Research.

Graduate Certificate Program in HIV & STIs
This new certificate program aims to provide UW graduate students with specialized training in the field of HIV & STIs. This program will equip future professionals in health and social science disciplines to address the complex interplay of biomedical, socio-behavioral, economic, gender, political and geographic factors that impact the disease course and spread of these epidemics.

Health Alliance International Programs
In collaboration with local Ministries of Health, HAI administers a variety of health-related projects in Mozambique and Timor-Leste (East Timor). HAI programs are based on a model of public partnership and sector-wide support of health-systems.

International AIDS Research and Training Program
Provides training to foreign investigators in HIV research and funding for field research for US investigators.

International Research and Training in Health Informatics Provides training to scholars from Peru and other Andean countries in informatics regarding public health research and surveillance.

International Training & Education Center on HIV
I-TECH promotes activities that increase human capacity for providing HIV/AIDS care and support in countries hardest hit by the AIDS epidemic.

Operations Research Mini-Course
This new one-day course was offered in July 2006, and provides training to program managers and researchers to better understand the theory, methodology, and application of operations research to improve HIV/STD programs in developing countries.
