International Students & Scholars Office (ISS)
ISS at the University of Washington provides assistance to 2,500 nonimmigrant students and 1.500 visiting faculty and scholars, representing more than 100 countries. Departments are encouraged to visit the ISS website and to contact the ISS for assistance with visiting scholars, students, and faculty to the UW. The website contains downloadable documents for and information regarding visa applications. For short-term Visiting International Pre-doctoral or Professional Students, there is a VIPPS J-1 Visa category.
SEVIS
SEVIS is an internet-based system that allows schools and the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (CIS) to exchange data on the visa status of international students. Accurate and current information is transmitted electronically throughout an F-1 or J-1 student's academic career in the United States. U.S. embassies and consulates also have access to SEVIS.
