Prospective Students

Thank you for your interest in the degree programs of the Department of Global Health.

Our programs seek to enroll well-qualified students with diverse backgrounds. We are committed to creating an environment that promotes dialogue and learning, and we honor the perspectives of people from different backgrounds and histories. Diversity encompasses differences in race, ethnicity, sex, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, culture, ability, age, and nationality. We welcome all of those who are willing to address global health issues and promote social justice.

MPH Admissions

The Department of Global Health offers a multi-track Master of Public Health (MPH) program with an emphasis on a social justice approach to global health. Our tracks include:

  • General
  • Leadership, Policy and Management
  • Health Metrics and Evaluation
  • Peace Corps Master's International

It is possible to pursue the MPH concurrently with a number of other graduate degrees at the University of Washington. (The Department of Epidemiology offers an MPH with a Global Health Track as well.)

Detailed information about the Global Health MPH program can be accessed through our main MPH page.

Currently there are 72 students in the Global Health MPH program, 33 of whom were admitted for Autumn 2009.

Information Sessions for MPH Program

During the academic year, the Department of Global Health MPH Program holds regular information sessions for prospective applicants. These sessions provide information on the General, Peace Corps Master's International (PCMI), and Leadership, Policy, and Management (LPM) Tracks, as well as an opportunity to meet with program staff.* Each session offers a brief overview of our curriculum, an outline of the application process, and plenty of time to answer questions.

The schedule of information sessions is as follows:

  • Autumn Quarter (October 2nd to December 11th): Every Friday, 11:15-12:00
  • Winter Quarter (January 8th to March 12th): The 2nd Friday of each month, 11:15-12:00
  • Spring Quarter (April 9th to June 4th): The 2nd Friday of each month, 11:15-12:00

All information sessions will be held in S-040 of the William H. Foege Genome Sciences Building. (Room S-040 is in the basement of the south side of the building). We also encourage potential applicants to attend the Global Health Seminar immediately following the information session. (Staff will accompany attendees from the info session to seminar).

The Global Health Seminar is a great place to get a feel for our MPH track offerings and to meet faculty, students, and staff. No reservation or appointment is needed to attend an information session.
