GENERAL GUIDELINES FOR A SUCCESSFUL MPH APPLICATION
Applicants to the Global Health MPH program are considered within the context of the entire application including: goal statement, work experience, recommendation letters, transcripts, and test scores. A competitive application meets the following criteria:
- Shows a good match between the training goals of applicant and the focus of the MPH track applied to.
- Meets the background and work experience requirements of the specific track being applied to. (Please read these carefully.)
- Demonstrates a progression between past and present training and/or experience and attainment of an MPH. The goal statement should clearly address how an MPH degree in Global Health will advance the applicant's professional goals.
- Is supported by strong recommendation letters, transcripts, and GRE scores. (The GRE is not required for those who have earned a doctoral degree in the United States from an accredited institution of higher learning.)
Most applicants who are admitted to the program have verbal and quantitative GRE scores at or above the 50th percentile and a cumulative college grade point average greater than 3.0 (B). However, all applicants are carefully considered in order to identify promising individuals whose scores or grades might not fully represent their potential.
Because successful completion of the core biostatistics and epidemiology courses is required for an MPH degree, it is important that students can perform well in quantitative work. A review course in algebra or statistics is highly encouraged for applicants who need to bolster their skills in this area.
