Dr. John Milner, Our First Professor Emeritus!
The Division of Dermatology is celebrating the practice and retirement of one of our most distinguished alumni, Dr. John Milner. In 1965, John Milner, M.D., became the first University of Washington Dermatology Resident. He completed his training in 1967, became board certified, and continued on to a distinguished career of more than four decades in Dermatology, maintaining his affiliation with and commitment to the training programs at the University of Washington throughout.
In addition to holding numerous faculty positions in the Division of Dermatology Dr. Milner also has held appointments with the Department of Environmental Health and the Department of Preventative Medicine. He received the William Baker Award in Dermatology for the years 2001-03 and 2005-07. This award was founded in 2001 to recognize the dedication and teaching excellence of the volunteer clinical faculty in the Division of Dermatology. We are also proud to announce that Dr. Milner has been appointed the first Professer Emeritus in the history of the division.
Dr. Milner has been a valued teacher and mentor for Dermatology Residents and Faculty for over 35 years. Our Division would not be what it is without him.
Welcome to the Division of Dermatology
We focus all our efforts on providing the best possible treatments for ailments related to the largest organ of the human body – the skin. Through research and training, we hope to provide even better treatments in the future.
Our research, funded by a wide variety of sources such as the National Institutes of Health, private foundations and industry, includes cutting edge technology in wound healing, diverse skin cancers and the basic biology of human skin.
Eighteen full-time and part-time faculty and more than 75 volunteer clinical faculty provide patient care at four affiliate hospitals: University of Washington Medical Center, Harborview Medical Center, Veteran’s Affairs Puget Sound Health Care System and Seattle Children’s.
This also provides the setting for training new physicians to be leaders in dermatological care and research. Our Dermatology Residency Program, one of the most competitive in the country, currently has eight residents in its three-year program.

New Patient Conference blog!
We are proud to introduce a new blog put together by our Chief Resident and staff from the Health Sciences Library. The blog contains research from the literature attempting to answer questions or clarify debate that comes from the patient care conference.
