Research Interests

Developmental biology of the distal digit. Healing skin around percutaneous devices. The pathophysiology of the ichthyoses. Most of these studies focus on in vitro models of epidermis.

Clinical Research Interests

General dermatology with special interest in individuals with inherited disorders of keratinization, with nail disorders, and with blistering skin disorders. Dr. Fleckman is the Principal Investigator of the National Registry for Ichthyosis and Related Disorders, an NIH-sponsored research registry for individuals with disorders of keratinization, and is the editor emeritus of the Dermatology Online Journal.
