Research and Clinical Interests

Dr. Kirby served as the attending dermatologist at Harborview Medical Center and as consulting dermatologist for the King County Sexually Transmitted Disease Clinic and Harborview AIDS clinic until 1992 when he entered private practice. Dr. Kirby rejoined the faculty in 1997 as an attending dermatologist at Harborview.

Dr. Kirby has been involved in clinical research related to diagnosis and treatment of infections caused by human papillomavirus. This has included clinical trials of new therapeutic agents such as interferon and podofilox; study of the relationship between HPV infection and cancer among patients with HIV infection. Dr. Kirby has an active interest in teaching dermatology to medical students and residents and, during his time in private practice, has contributed a monthly educational feature to a medical journal.
