| To apply for a specific design major (Visual Communication Design, Industrial Design and Design Studies), sophomore students need to submit a design portfolio for faculty review.
Please bring your portfolio to room 228 of the Art Building between 11:00am-2:00pm on Thursday, May 15th. We will have large (15" x 20") envelopes to hold and protect your portfolio.
Portfolios will be available for student pick-up outside of room 247 of the Art Building on Tuesday, May 27. All unclaimed portfolios will be discarded after Friday, June 6.
Portfolio Content
1. All Sophomore Design Course Work
Please include all course projects from ART 207, 209, and 212. You should also include work in-progress from ART 210 and 211. Dimensional projects should be shown in photographs. Do not submit original 3-D models.
2. Personal Resume
Please include information in the categories listed below:
Name and contact information
High school name/location and GPA
Current UW-GPA and total credits earned
Previous College GPA and total credits earned
TOEFL Score (if applicable)
Extracurricular Activities
Volunteer and/or Paid Work Experience
3. Current UW Transcript
Unofficial transcripts are acceptable.
4. Preference/Ranking of Design Majors
Please include the Design Major Form (available for download here). This form asks you to rank your preference of design major (Visual Communication Design, Industrial Design and Design Studies). Please also indicate if you have interest in completing courses in the area of Interaction Design.
Notification
Students will receive their area assignments from the Art Advising Office via e-mail on Tuesday, May 27. Students should contact the Art Advising Office by Tuesday, June 3 to accept or decline their admission into a program.
Student may also sign up for a 10 minute advising appointment with design faculty on Friday, May 30 between 9:00am-1:00pm. The sign-up sheet will be posted outside of Room 230 in the Art Building.
