Administrative Core

Purpose

The DERC Administrative Core oversees all DERC operations and communications.

Description

The Administrative Core manages the day-to-day administrative tasks of the DERC, including fiscal and personnel management, administrative and clerical support, oversight of program income, and coordination of the meetings and activities of the Center. The Administrative Core actively supports the Center's mission to promote and support collaborative research in diabetes and acts as information resource and liaison between the Center and its Affiliate Investigators, the NIH, the University of Washington, affiliated hospitals, private industry and the community at large.

Services and Activities

The Administrative Core provides the following services to DERC affiliates:

  • Coordinates and manages the DERC's Pilot and Feasibility Studies Program of research grants and fellowship awards. This also includes the New Investigator Awards and McAbee Fellowships supported by the Diabetes Research and Treatment Programs (DRTP) of the University of Washington.
  • Coordinates and manages the DERC Enrichment Program, which includes a monthly seminar series, an annual symposium, a visiting scientist program, a joint research retreat with the University of Washington NIH Clinical Nutrition and Research Unit, and special seminars throughout the year.
  • Oversees and maintains the DERC Website.
  • Maintains an extensive bibliographic database of the publications of DERC Affiliate Investigators that pertain to diabetes, endocrinology, and related metabolic disorders, and that specifically resulted from use of DERC resources and cores in their diabetes-related research projects.
  • Coordinates meetings of DERC Committees and maintains records of meeting agendas and minutes.
  • Provides administrative and clerical support for use of the DERC by diabetes clinical trails at the University of Washington.
  • Acts as an information source and liaison between the DERC and its Affiliate Investigators, the NIH, the University of Washington, other biomedical centers and institutes within the University community, affiliated hospitals, private industry and the community at large.
