Lower A1C levels seen in people with sickle cell trait, study finds

Journal of the American Medical Association showed that African Americans with a sickle cell trait had A1C levels of 5.72%, compared with 6.01% among those without SCT. The findings, based on 4,620 African Americans, revealed that low A1C levels were associated with significantly lower rates of prediabetes and diabetes when participants were diagnosed with A1C criteria.
