ANNOUNCEMENT University of Washington College of Architecture and Urban Planning Lecture Series Special Session, 2001 - 2002 Praxis@CAUP This year the CAUP Lecture Series takes a "sabbatical" from its usual offering to try a more focused format -- "Praxis@CAUP". Once a quarter, Praxis@CAUP will sponsor a thematic dialogue consisting of a tripartite sequence of events: A. Evening Lecture A Visiting Speaker of prominence will deliver a talk central to the theme of the quarter and of interest to the academic and professional community at large. B. Noon Lectures and Events The Visiting Speaker will be preceded by a series of student and faculty led noon hour events, allowing the central theme of the quarter to be developed. C. Round Table To follow up, an invited group of participants, including faculty and students, its constituencies, and the Visiting Speaker, will engage in a round table dialogue on the theme. The three themes proposed for the 2001-2 academic year are: Praxis 1: Digital Design; Virtual Construction Autumn Quarter Praxis 2: Urban Sustainability; Communities in Action Winter Quarter Praxis 3: Design Build; From Craftsmanship to Management Spring Quarter This year the program will be directed by Vikram Prakash, Associate Dean of External Affairs (vprakash@u.washington.edu), assisted by Jim Nicholls, Director Emeritus of the CAUP Lecture Series (jnicholl@u.washington.edu). The selection of the Visiting Speakers, and organization of each Praxis@CAUP will be done in active collaboration with the faculty, students and community member actively interested in each theme.
