War on the Docks: Puget Sound’s Longshoremen in the 1934 Strike
The 1934 Longshoremen’s strike was the first of many strikes in the mid-1930s.   The Pacific Coast longshoremen set an important precedent, showing workers across the country that significant gains could be made through solidarity and united action.
In 1935, taking cues from the longshoremen, Puget Sound’s timber workers went out on strike.  ILA members joined them on the picket lines.
