Background information

Three years ago sixteen campers gathered in cabin one here at Camp Courage. Four girls and twelve boys ranging from age 13 to 18 listened as Sheryl Burgstahler explained what DOIT was, and what she would teach over the next eight days. Some students had used computers to explore the internet before, and others had never used a computer at all.

Now, during the third session of computer/college preview camp, things are different, and still the same. Only three students from the original sixteen still attend, but many from second year returned for this third session. This year, for the first time, the number of experienced students outranks the number of newcomers. The levels of experience, however, range even farther than during the first year.

Two separate groups make up computer/college preview camp this year. Not only is there the introduction to the internet and college preview course, there is also a web development section. Eight students, including the three from the first year, produced the page you are now looking at.

Thanks to this program, and the adaptive equipment it provides, students know how to send e-mail, explore the web, and plan a future involving college.
