Camp Courage College Preview and Internet Camp 2003

Jon's picture During July 2003, campers came to Camp Courage near Maple Lake, MN. Several signed up for the College Preview and Internet Camp. For some of the campers this was their first year in the College Preview / Computer Camp program. Others were returning for the second and third and... well and then there's Jon (the wild man pictured on this page).

This is the 9th summer during which the College Preview and Internet Camp has been conducted at Camp Courage. First year students often participate in the Internet introduction classes. A two-way satellite interface provides an Internet network source for computers throughout camp. The ground floor of cabin 4 is computer-ready and the campers are too. Sheryl Burgstahler from the DO-IT Program at the University of Washington starts classes with email and proceeds through web surfing, web page design and college preparation.

Returning campers have the option of enrolling in the digital video lab. Digital video cameras and Mac computers are used by the students to create a videotape film. At the end of the camp session the productions are shown and the Bobbo award is presented for the best film.

And then there are those campers who have been here for many years and just keep coming back. You remember Jon. An Intern program gives experienced campers a chance to help others solve the mysteries of hypertext links, URLs, and .gif vs .jpg formats.
