Words of Wisdom

These words of wisdom are from DO-IT and Camp Courage participants and mentors:

Plan ahead and be prepared to revise your plan later as you have more experiences. It is especially important to work with the school you plan on attending ahead of time.

"Preparation," that is the key word in everything we do for success.

Think about what skills you have that you would like to use in a job.

Simply put, be prepared!

Seek assistance from student service offices, including disability services. Plan, organize and evaluate your needs so that you can work with support service units to fill any gaps in assistance you identify.

Be wise about the number of credits you take, especially the first quarter (when it is easy to be overwhelmed).

Take some fun courses, as well as more challenging courses.

Request aid from your professors. Dont be intimidated by them; they are there to help.

Enjoy the social life on campus it is a good way to meet new people and make friends.

"Every new beginning comes from some other beginning's end."- Closing Time- Semisonic

Take a variety of classes that sound interesting; you might find careers that you like and hadn't considered.

Take concrete steps to turn your dreams into reality.

Remind others that just because you might have a disability does not mean you necessarily can't do a job.

If you make a bad grade don't give up. Keep moving forward.
