PROGRAM DIRECTION

The Director of the proposed program is Dr. Timothy A. DeRouen, Professor of Biostatistics in the School of Public Health, Professor and Chairman of Dental Public Health Sciences and Associate Dean for Research in the School of Dentistry, and Director of the Comprehensive Center for Oral Health Research.

Important administrative oversight is provided by 4 Associate Directors: 

Dr. Philip Weinstein is responsible for coordinating the Health Services and Behavioral Research component; Dr. Cathy Critchlow for the Epidemiology component; Dr. Brian Leroux for the Biostatistics component; and Dr. Linda LeResche for the predoctoral dental student component.

Dr. Philip Weinstein is Professor, Department of Dental Public Health Sciences and Adjunct Professor of Psychology and Pediatric Dentistry.  He directed the Dental Disease Prevention training program from its inception in 1982 until it was incorporated into this training program.

Dr. Brian Leroux, who is Associate Director with responsibility for the Biostatistics component, is Associate Professor in Biostatistics and Dental Public Health Sciences.  He has assumed responsibility for direction of the Biometry Core associated with the Clinical Dental Research Center and the Comprehensive Center for Oral Health Research and the Center for Research to Reduce Oral Health Disparities.

Dr. Cathy Critchlow, who is Associate Director with responsibility for the Epidemiology component, is Associate Professor of Epidemiology and Dental Public Health Sciences.  She teaches two courses in the Epidemiology graduate program each year and serves on their Admissions Committee, and is therefore in an excellent position to be the primary contact between the proposed training program and the Department of Epidemiology.

Dr. Linda LeResche serves as Associate Director with responsibility for the predoctoral dental student summer research program.  Dr. LeResche has served as the Director of Undergraduate and Dental Student Research in the School of Dentistry since 1998, and she has been the Director of the School of Dentistry T35 Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship training grant since 1991.  She is Research Professor in the Department of Oral Medicine.
