Effect of Short-term Glucose Elevation on Glucose Metabolism in Impaired Glucose Tolerance: Do I qualify for the study?
You qualify if you have the following:
- Known impaired glucose tolerance
- Impaired glucose tolerance after being screened.
- Risk factors that indicate it is worth screening for impaired glucose tolerance are:
- obesity
- diabetes during pregnancy
- family history of type 2 diabetes
- elevated fasting blood glucose
- Age 18-80
- Able come to Seattle for all study visits and procedures (4 days total)
You do not qualify if you have any of the following:
- Diabetes with or without medications
- Use of steroids (i.e. prednisone) or niacin
- Significant weight loss in the past 6 months (>5%)
- Serious medical conditions such as:
- heart disease or history of congestive heart failure
- abnormal kidney or liver function
- anemia
- Pregnancy or lactation
