Study Name: Effect of Dietary Glycemic Index on Beta-cell Function: Do I qualify for the study?
You qualify if you are:
- Between 18-65 years old
- Have impaired glucose tolerance
- Subjects must be willing to:
- Maintain prior exercise and dietary habits throughout the study
- Pick up their food twice a week at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center
- Consume all of the food while on the study diets
- Come to Seattle for all study visits and procedures (5 days total)
You do not qualify if you have any of the following:
- Have significant food allergies or intolerances
- Smoke or use tobacco
- Have serious medical conditions such as liver or kidney disease, cancer, inflammatory arthritis
- Have diabetes or take diabetes medications
- Take medications associated with insulin resistance: prednisone, glucocorticoids, niacin
- Take anti-inflammatory medications on a daily basis (such as ibuprofen, naproxen, aspirin)
- Are anemic (have a low red blood cell count)
- Are pregnant or breastfeeding
- Have stomach ulcers, digestive or swallowing problems, heartburn requiring medication
