TERIS
The Teratogen Information System
TERIS (The Teratogen Information System) is a computerized database designed to assist physicians or other health care professionals in assessing the risks of possible teratogenic exposures in pregnant women. The database consists of a series of agent summaries, each of which is based on a thorough review of published clinical and experimental literature. The agent summaries are designed to aid health care professionals in counseling pregnant patients who have concerns about possible effects of drugs and other agents on their developing embryos. Each summary includes a risk assessment derived by consensus of an Advisory Board comprised of nationally-recognized authorities in clinical teratology.
NOTE: TERIS is not intended as a guide for prescribing medications, immunobiologics, or vaccines to pregnant women. Prescribers should consult approved package inserts or the current ACIP guidelines (in the case of vaccines or immunobiologics) for such guidance. It should also be noted that the TERIS risk ratings refer only to the risk of teratogenic effects to the fetus after maternal exposure to the agent. Health care practitioners are strongly encouraged to read the TERIS Preamble prior to accessing the database information. This document contains information that is essential for the health care professional to review in order to appropriately utilize the TERIS database.
